Tour Day: 5
A comfy bus ride, then off to see Lyon

Getting some exercise at the rest stop 😂

A classic French treat according to Steve!
Exploring town after our walk with our tour group!

In deep thought, thinking about how he promised to try escargot later...🐌
Rome? Is that you????

La Place des Jacobins
Gastronomical Capital of France
Lyon is known as the gastronomical capital of France, which basically means REALLY GOOD FOOD!!!!!
Trying Snails!

The face of concern PRE-snails 😂

One of my favorite phrases my French teacher taught us in school when learning about culture is for when you want to say "YUCK!!!!!!", but instead you should say "I am not cultured enough to appreciate this fine dish"...and I would probably say this about escargot, BUT apparently Boot is cultured enough because he LOVED escargot in Lyon!
I was really surprised, but Boot absolutely loved escargot!

Tour Day: 6
Vieux Lyon, attending a church service at Basilica de Notre Dame de Fourvière, Roman ruins, Place Saint-Jean, and a fancy Italian restaurant in France

Basilica de Notre Dame de Fourvière
We tried to channel Rick Steves and go with the flow of travel, so when we arrived at the church on Sunday morning, and they were having a public church service, we thought why not check it out! It was a really fun experience!
In case you're wondering, yes, we did walk up the 563 steps to the top...Funicular who????

View from Fourvière hill

Not for Lexi and Boot

Just a casual ancient Roman Amphitheater still used today...no biggie!

Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste

You know what rhymes with "Gastronomical"?...
Astronomical, like this giant astronomical clock at Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste!
Boot found this delicious restaurant that had the cutest decor, and it was so cool (temperature wise) because were actually in a basement...I'll take it when it's 100 degrees outside!!!

Same?? I think so.

Lexi was so excited to have some Italian style food! YUM!
To be completely honest with everyone, we didn't really think we would like Lyon very much. When we arrived, there was a WILD music festival going on in the city, and the first evening, it was way MORE crowded than the most touristy areas in Paris, which was not fun to navigate...OBVIOUSLY! We only ventured out for dinner and of course some GELATO because what else would make us feel happy! Duh! BUT, the next day, Lyon was absolutely empty...I mean cleared out, and it was so magical! The city was amazing, we found the traboules and walked through them! For anyone who doesn't know, the traboules are hidden passageways between buildings. They were used by silk traders many years ago and in more recent times by members of the Resistance during WWII. These actually connect to people's appartments, but as long as you are respectful, you can travel through! They are really neat! We also walked up the 500 or 5,000 (who's counting) steps up to Fourvière hill, attended a church service at Basilica de Notre Dame de Fourvière, saw some ancient Roman amphitheaters, and explored other beautiful areas of the city! We actually ended up LOVING Lyon!
MORAL OF THE STORY - Give everywhere a chance before you form your opinion of it...even cities in foreign countries!
